What US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) bonded carriers serve the Port area?
What is a CBP bonded carrier?
Carriers must acquire a special CBP bond to become a CBP bonded carrier
As defined by CBP:
A bonded carrier can be any common carrier, contract carrier, freight forwarder, or private carrier bonded (with CBP) for the purpose of moving merchandise still under CBP control. The carrier is responsible for the safeguarding and proper delivery of bonded cargo and its corresponding documentation from the origination of the bonded movement until it is delivered and receipted for at its destination.
To insure shipments are delivered to the port of destination intact, carriers should seal conveyances or compartments containing bonded merchandise with proper CBP seals. If the shipment cannot be placed in a sealed container or conveyance, the carrier should furnish and attach to each package a CBP bonded package warning label (as described in regulation).
Carriers bonded under CBP Regulations to transport merchandise in-bond will incur claims for liquidated damages when shipments are not properly transported and delivered to CBP at destination or when documents that are mishandled contribute to improper delivery.
